Consumer Directed Healthcare

Consumer Directed Services (CDS) are home healthcare services offered by Medicaid or Medicaid waiver programs where the consumer (Patient) can hire the caregiver and coordinate the services authorized.

An effective software platform should have the functions and features to help agencies manage the challenges posed by Consumer Directed Services.

There are millions of people who serve as caregivers. Whether they work for a private duty nursing services provider, work for a home care agency, or work independently taking care of a family or friend who might need extra assistance, this article penned by Stacey Bruss, RN, highlights the traits necessary to get the job done.

With falling reimbursement rates, the rollout of PDGM, and increased compliance, Home Care Agencies are under pressure to do more with less. Improving the health of the revenue cycle is a complex process that needs caregivers and financial administrators to work in synchrony to achieve optimal results.  An integrated platform that covers all processes including intake, authorization management, scheduling, billing, and collections, and provides features to manage the revenue cycle requirements of these processes is a must for ensuring optimal reimbursements.

The Road Ahead for Oxygen Products

Supplemental oxygen has been and remains an essential frontline therapy in the ongoing fight against COVID-19. Here in the United States, much of the country is resuming life as usual with renewed vigor, thanks to wide access to vaccines and a naturally acquired immune response post-infection.

However, in other places—including, most recently, India—the need for therapeutic oxygen is continuing to outpace the available supply, putting pressure on the already stressed supply chain and allowing equipment manufacturers and suppliers no chance to take a breath and recover from the past year.

Moving Toward Federal Long-Term Care Insurance

Although Medicaid covers long-term care for Americans living in poverty, Medicare does not cover the long-term care needs of other seniors. Many middle-class Americans without private long-term care insurance plans must pay out of pocket.

A 2019 study funded by the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care found that come 2029, more than half of the nation’s 14.4 million middle-income older adults wouldn’t have the financial resources to pay for senior housing or in-home care.

Choose Home Bill Looks to Make Home Health the Center of the Health Care World

The Choose Home Care Act of 2021 was introduced in the U.S. Senate less than 72 hours ago, but it’s already creating major buzz in the senior care world.

In a nutshell, Choose Home is bipartisan legislation that seeks to create an add-on payment for home health providers taking care of certain patients otherwise eligible for nursing home-level care following a hospital stay.
