Understanding Private Duty Home Care Services and the need for specialized software

Optimal management of resources is a priority for Home Care agencies providing clinical and non-clinical services. With strict federal regulations around verification of visits, clinical documentation, and billing for services, they must look for software that helps them schedule caregiver visits optimally, document visits, and bill on time.

A Primer on Home and Community-Based Services

Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) provide Medicaid beneficiaries opportunities to receive services in their own home or community rather than institutions or other isolated settings. These programs serve various targeted population groups, such as people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, and mental illnesses.

Tools to Improve the Quality of Clinical Documentation in Home Health Care

Home Health Care Agencies should implement Clinical Document Improvement (CDI) programs to understand that clinical documentation starts at referral and must be managed throughout patient care (Admit through Discharge). Home care agencies should identify key characteristics of the clinical documentation, come up with the right Clinical Documentation Improvement program, and use the right software platform with tools to monitor and improve the quality of clinical documentation.

Effective Communication For Home Health Care Agencies To Improve Quality Of Care

A comprehensive, integrated software platform that provides multiple communication tools that are easy to use is essential for effective communication to improve quality of care, patient satisfaction, operational efficiency, and compliance. Home Health Care Agencies should take a holistic view of the communication needs of the agency before selecting a software platform that will meet the communication requirements.

Educational Session: Video - Selecting the right software for Private Duty Nursing

Private Duty Nursing is different from your traditional home health as it requires skilled care for medically fragile patients. The care is typically provided in longer shifts from 8 to 12 hours and for a limited number of patients over a longer period of time. In the Private Duty Nursing field, the nurse or LPN gets to know the patient as a person and can really become quite attached to their patient. The care provided can be in multiple settings such as the patient's home, school, or even a group home setting.
